Arrels del Vi is the trade fair for most select wines of the DO Empordà region, which is open to consumers and professionals of
vineyards and gastronomy sectors. It offers a special opportunity to taste the best wines of the Empordà and to buy fabulous wines direct from the vineyard. It is normally held around Whitsun week (in May - June).
The name of the fair is related with the legend of
Sant Martí d'Empúries. Excavations carried out in this town, which was inhabited by the earliest Greek settlers from Focea, have revealed that it has been continuously inhabited, and that wine making was introduced to the Iberian Peninsula from this privileged point on the Mediterranean. This means that the wine-making tradition of this region can be traced back through twenty-six centuries.
